Server Merges

Starting on June 22, 2010 some of the EverQuest servers are being merged. Some details have been posted by SOE. If you have characters on any of the affected servers you should have received an email from SOE telling you of the upcoming merger. If not, you might want to check your Station account to verify that your e-mail address is correct.

Greetings EverQuest Adventurer!

At least at this time there doesn't seem to be any changes planned for any of the special servers such as Firiona Vie, Zek, or Antonius Bayle. However, while they are merging these 20 servers into 10 they also plan to create a new server and we get to suggest the new name.

It would be a good idea to read the full article before the merger takes place, especially if you have characters both servers in one of the mergers. There are potentially issues with the number of characters, shared bank items, and naming. Characters under level 10 that have been inactive for 6 months or longer will be deleted (so be sure to login in to any character that will be affected by this before the merger if you wish to save them).

Are the mergers a good thing? If the merges are a result of a shrinking number of players it is a bit disturbing but necessary move to ensure a better game experience for us diehard fans. It is also possible that some of the merges are a reflection of the increased power that the servers have these days as well as increased use of instanced zones.

That the game has lasted this long and continues to be strong when most of it's old competition has fallen is quite amazing. Even more amazing is the fact that it still holds up well to the new contenders as well. The biggest threat to the game is the lack of new blood. If we don't replace the retiring/quitting old players with new players the game will eventually die. So they next time you see a new player, or an old player returning to the game, help them out. There's a lot to learn for the "noob" and a lot has changed for someone who has been away a couple of years. Help them and make them feel welcome.

If you'd like to reach me in game you can usually find me on as cazic.romen or test.mentas or firiona.fiella. Since Underfoot came out I have been spending most of my time on Cazic Thule with my first magician, Romen Orgi. (Well, just "Romen" now since a GM thought my surname was offensive and removed it - permanently. Romen has had that name for about 7 or 8 years of the 10+ years I have been playing and not once has another player ever complained that the name was offensive.)
